There, they're met with a strange sight: at the center of the broken flaming meteor is a very tall man, played by Daniel Weyman. As the girls learn, he doesn't seem to speak the same language as them, has a hard time understanding what's going on, and isn't quite sure where he's from.

As soon as the Mystics realize the Stranger isn't Sauron, they label him an "Istar." With this label, and several other hints throughout the episode and the season, The Rings of Power has all but confirmed that the Stranger is everyone's favorite wizard: Gandalf the Grey.

Unless Gandalf secretly arrived thousands of years before Tolkien said he did and looped back around later to pretend he arrived during the Third Age, Meteor Man is not Gandalf. And if this guy does turn out to be Gandalf, The Rings of Power will have committed a pretty big canon violation.

But the most puzzling characters on Prime Video's The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power—at least to date—may be the three witches in white who are played by Edith Poor, Bridie Sisson, and Kali Kopae. Perhaps it's more accurate to call them cultists or evil-doers.

Morgoth, also known as Melkor, is an ancient being from the beginning of creation that became primary source of evil on Middle-earth. As the main antagonist of several of Tolkien's books, including The Silmarillion and The Children of Húrin, Morgoth is the precursor to Sauron.

So Sauron was ultimately in possession of 3 Dwarven Rings of Power.

The way Rings of Power did it, it was quite boring (IMO at least). Not only that, the action for the most part was also not that interesting to watch. And the lore and humor was 95% dull. All of that in the most expensive show ever made is pretty amazing that they pulled off what they did (in a not-good way).

Morgoth's end came in the War of Wrath. The half-elf Eärendil (Elrond's father) led the Valar in the War of Wrath. During this battle, they seized Morgoth and chained him up in Angband. The Valar ejected Morgoth into the Void, an empty place where time did not exist.

For The Rings of Power, Númenórian hatred of Elves built over time out of jealously for their immortality. In The Silmarillion, Tolkien outlines the downfall of Númenor as a slow burn that began with the Ban of the Valar, which entailed the first Númenórians agreeing to never sail west toward Valinor.

The Eye of Sauron, which is what he was commonly referred to, became a symbol of fear and power for those involved in the War of the Ring.

According to Tolkien canon, Gandalf and Saruman didn't even arrive in Middle-earth until the Third Age (Rings of Power is set in the Second Age). The same goes for Saruman. The Blue Wizards arrive in the Second Age, but we know very little about their story.

The series is set during the Second Age of Middle-earth. That alone would seem to rule out any possibility of Gandalf appearing in The Rings of Power. According to this history, Gandalf and his fellow wizards don't appear in Middle-earth until the Third Age, well after the events being chronicled in The Rings of Power.
